Atria Kennebunk is a 74 unit assisted living care facility located in Kennebunk, Maine. A site area of 5.07 acres with approximately 61,000 square feet of forested wetland provided a challenge to develop a plan that met the client's goals and addressed the environmental constraints. Mitchell & Associates coordinated with the project architect to develop a building footprint to integrate into the site to minimize impacts to the wetlands and provide for required circulation, parking, service area and emergency vehicle access.

The site plan included the creation of 5,500 square feet of wetland with an additional 8,000 square feet of wetland enhancement to compensate for impacted areas. Site program requirements included an interior courtyard seating area and a secured courtyard for an Alzheimer care unit. The courtyard required design elements that were sensitive to the needs of the residents, creating sensory stimulation and direction.
