Morrison Developmental Center
Scarborough, Maine
Mitchell & Associates, in association with CWS Architects, were selected to design the new expanded 31,000 s.f. Morrison Developmental and Educational Center -- a non-profit organization dedicated to providing education, training and support to children and adults.
The project features a public playground, open spaces for education opportunities and a paved entrance plaza. The single story building is fully accessible and features green design elements. The staff parking area and maintenance access road feature pervious pavement.

Blossom Station Child Care Center
Acton, Massachusetts
This project involved converting an industrial trucking facility into a full service child care center serving infants to preschool age children.
The truck loading dock became the play space and the entire play area required raising by 4 feet to meet the building finish floor. Within the small play area, the landscape is used to provide a diverse range of play opportunities. Trike paths and plantings define the activity zones and equipment, sand play, hill slide and secret nooks engage children in fun and developmentally appropriate learning opportunities.

Brown Elementary School
South Portland, Maine
Brown Elementary School is a K-3 elementary school , and one of the five neighborhood schools designed as a renovation and addition project for the city of South Portland.
Mitchell & Associates was chosen as part of the design team to provide design services, construction drawings and construction management for the project. The site design focused on providing a dedicated bus drop off area, reorganization and expansion of parking for staff and visitors, plantings in memory or dedicated to honor students, faculty and other individuals, as well as athletic fields and a playground.

Small Elementary School
South Portland, Maine
A 232 student K-3 elementary school designed on a 10.6 acre site of the former Small Elementary School. Small Elementary was one of five neighborhood schools the city was upgrading to meet current building codes.
Mitchell & Associates was selected as part of the design team to provide site evaluation in conjunction with evaluation of the existing school structure. The site evaluation included options for siting of a new school to be integrated to retain an existing field and tennis courts. Design challenges included accommodating school bus drop off area, expanded parking, parent drop off area, outdoor seating area for class activities.
